Old School

Old School
Written thousands of years ago, in the original languages of Greek, Hebrew and Aramaic, some people believe the Bible is irrelevant today.  In today’s modern world we can rest assured that the Bible is not some ancient, ordinary book to bore us to death.  The Bible is God’s word.  God is the word.  God is an eternal being. The word will always be alive and relevant regardless of how old it is.
Yes, the Bible was written by men but not just by men.  The writers were chosen by God and had the Spirit of God within them which guided them in saying exactly what God wanted to say.  That’s why the prophets were able to predict the events that would occur centuries later.
“For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (II Peter 1:21 KJV)
Purposes of the Bible
The Bible shows us how to heal and start over after life’s disappointments.  The Bible provides wisdom for broken friendships, marriages and relationships between parent and child.  Throughout God’s word, He says that He’ll be a father to the fatherless, a mother to the motherless and a friend to the repentant heart.
“A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in his holy habitation.” (Psalms 68:5 KJV)
Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John 14:15 KJV)
“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” (James 4:8 KJV)
The Bible exposes the tricks of the enemy.  There is nothing new under the sun.  It helps believers know what to look out for and what to avoid.  The enemy has no new tricks to throw at us and the Bible exposes all of his old ploys.  The Bible points to a higher purpose.  Our lives on this Earth are not an accident but are lined with a purpose by an Almighty God.
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11 KJV)
God’s plan for eternal life is explained.  Regardless of how long we live on this Earth, the Bible tells us that there’s so much more to look forward to.  We, as human beings, are flawed, finite creatures but we can be made perfect by being born again and accepting Jesus as our personal savior.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 6:23 KJV)
The Bible tells us about how we live our lives.  If we apply what we read, our lives would change for the better.  Here are a few examples.
Many people live very busy lives rushing from assignment to assignment without taking a break.  The Bible tells us that we should rest one day a week.  Obeying the word can give us the much needed rest we need.
Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: 10 but the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:” (Exodus 20:9-10 KJV)
Having plenty of money and possessions fail to make us happy.  The simple joy that comes from generosity is indescribable.
“I have coveted no man’s silver, or gold, or apparel. 34 Yea, ye yourselves know, that these hands have ministered unto my necessities, and to them that were with me. 35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:33-35 KJV)
The Bible gives us something that no other source has been able to do in human life.  It reveals the meaning of life.  The theory of evolution tells us that life is pointless.  The Bible reveals a much, greater truth.  We are not on Earth by accident.  We are individual human beings in whom God has taken personal interest.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you” (I Peter 5:6-7 KJV)
God did not randomly create mankind to just take up space.  We were created for a purpose and he wants us to become members of his eternal kingdom.
in whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:” (Ephesians 1:11 KJV)
“Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:” (Matthew 25:34 KJV)
The Bible is no random, old-fashioned, obsolete book to sit on the shelf and collect dust.  It is a book that reveals how to improve our relationships, how to live our lives and most importantly……..THE MEANING OF LIFE!  It is just as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.
